Monday Nighs, October 13th to November 10th, 2025 - (6pm - 9:30pm) - BEARDED AX
Step into the fire and create a functional piece of history! In this hands-on class, students will forge their own bearded axe—a tool and weapon with roots in Viking and medieval tradition. Participants will learn traditional blacksmithing techniques for shaping, heat treating, and finishing a high-quality axe that’s both functional and beautiful.
What You’ll Learn:
· Forge Safety & Fire Control – Working confidently and safely around the forge, anvil, and tools.
· Shaping the Axe Head – Forging a bearded axe profile, including the extended blade edge characteristic of the design.
· Punching & Drift Work – Creating and refining the eye for a secure handle fit.
· Heat Treating & Tempering – Hardening the blade for strength and edge retention while tempering for durability.
· Grinding & Finishing – Profiling, sharpening, and polishing your axe for both function and aesthetics.
· Basic handle fitting and shaping, depending on class length.
