Tuesday's, September 16th to November 18th, 2025 - (10am - 2pm) - BLACKSMITHING BASICS - ABANA LEVEL #1
This Blacksmithing Basics, ABANA Level I Blacksmithing Class is designed for those who want a solid foundation in traditional blacksmithing skills. This hands-on course follows the standards set by the Artist-Blacksmith’s Association of North America (ABANA) and introduces students to essential forging techniques, shop safety, and tool use. By the end of the class, participants will have completed a series of projects that build confidence and competence at the anvil.
What You’ll Learn:
· Forge & Fire Management – Learn to safely light, maintain, and control a coal or gas forge.
· Hammer Control & Anvil Techniques – Proper striking, tool handling, and posture for efficiency and accuracy.
· Basic Forging Skills – Drawing out, tapering, bending, twisting, punching, and drifting.
· Tool Use – How to effectively use tongs, chisels, punches, and hammers.
· Project Work – Complete a set of foundational blacksmithing projects (such as S-hooks, drive hooks, and basic tools) that demonstrate mastery of Level I techniques.
ABANA membership is required to receive an official level 1 certificate from ABANA. This will be discussed at the beginning of class.
Lastly, if you are not a Veteran, Active Duty, Law Enforcement, or First Responder, do not sign up for this class.
