Step back into history and forge one of the most iconic blades of the ancient world—the Roman Gladius. Known as the sword that 'conquered an empire,' the Gladius is a versatile short sword prized for its strength, balance, and cutting power. In this immersive class, students will learn advanced bladesmithing techniques to create their own functional Gladius, from raw steel to finished weapon.
What You’ll Learn:
· Forge Safety & Fire Management – Working safely with high heat, tools, and steel.
· Forging the Blade – Shaping the Gladius’ characteristic short, double-edged blade.
· Beveling & Profiling – Establishing edges and refining the blade geometry.
· Heat Treating & Tempering – Hardening and tempering the blade for durability and cutting performance.
· Grinding & Polishing – Creating a balanced and sharp edge with a clean finish.
· Guard, handle, and pommel fitting to complete the classic Roman design.
